when you got that spiderbite on your hand
i thought we would have to break up the band
to lose an arm would surely upset your brain
the poison then could reach your heart through a vein
i was glad that it didn't destroy you
how sad that would be
cuz if it destroyed you
it would destroy me
those are flaming lips lyrics, based on a true story of when a band member was bitten by a spider. the next verse is about a car crash that nearly killed another band member.
last night i watched "fearless freaks", a documentary thing about the flaming lips. in one scene they were performing live and pouring lighter fluid on top of cymbal while they struck it. so there was a sort of pool of fire on the cymbal along with the stage. they just kept playing. in another scene they talked about how at one performance they had a cousin put his motorcycle on stage. they put a mic up to the exhaust and revved it to the point that it overheated. the cousin said that he was kinda wired and thought about jumping on the motorcycle and riding it through the crowd.
they don't really do anything that stupid or funny anymore. now it's just fake blood and hand puppets and balloons and glitter.
i suppose in a world after great white you can't randomly cover things with lighter fluid anymore, but i'll always pine for a more innocent time when you could. aw... the good ol' days.

by random coincidence i am listening to Transmissions from the Satellite Heart right now... but I don't recognise the lyrics, perhaps you can enlighten me?
